Argentina Citizenship by Investment in 2026: The Complete Guide

Argentina is the newest name on my list, and the least settled one. Until 2025 the country gave citizenship by naturalisation only after residence. Now the law has a second ground: a relevant investment. I wrote this guide after reading the decree texts on Argentina.gob.ar, the Ministry of Economy announcement and the BRIDGES programme page, all checked on 30 October 2026.
Where the programme stands
Three documents matter. Decree 366/2025, published on 29 May 2025, rewrote Article 2 of Citizenship Law No. 346: foreigners who prove a relevant investment can be naturalised “whatever the length of their residence”. It also created the Citizenship by Investment Programmes Agency under the Ministry of Economy. Decree 524/2025, published on 31 July 2025, set the procedure. On 2 October 2026 the Minister of Economy, Luis Caputo, with the Cabinet Chief, Diego Santilli, announced the launch in Paris and said applications would open in the fourth quarter of 2026.
As of today I have not seen the Ministry of Economy resolution with the final amounts or the Agency’s own rules in the official sources. Until they appear, every figure below is an announcement, not a regulation.
The two options
The government named two ways for the main applicant: a non-refundable USD 350,000 contribution to the National Treasury, or the subscription of a USD 800,000 public security created for the programme. A spouse and single children aged 18 to 25 without children of their own add USD 100,000 each, children under 18 add USD 25,000 each. A couple with two minor children comes to USD 500,000. The details, including what is still unknown about the bond, are in the cost guide.
The checks
The investment alone gives nothing. Under Decree 524/2025 the Agency first decides whether the investment counts as relevant, then asks for reports from the Ministry of National Security, the Financial Intelligence Unit (UIF), the National Recidivism Registry, RENAPER and the State Intelligence Secretariat (SIDE). It then sends a reasoned report to the National Directorate of Migration, which has 30 business days to grant or refuse. The steps are in the process guide.
The court challenge
This is the part I would not skip. In a 2026 case the National Electoral Chamber declared Decree 366/2025 null, and the government has filed an appeal to the Supreme Court. The programme rests on that decree. I explain what is known and what is not in the guide to the legal basis.

Other routes and dual citizenship
The ordinary route still exists: two years of continuous and legal residence with no trips abroad. Argentina accepts dual nationality. More in the guide to other routes.
The passport
In the BRIDGES Passport Index of 4 October 2026 the Argentine passport ranks 18th of 199 and opens 168 destinations without a prior visa, including the Schengen area. The United States and Canada still require a visa. See the passport guide.
My honest view
On paper this is one of the clearest new programmes: the amounts are public and the checks are written into a decree. In practice it has not opened yet, the fees are unknown, and the decree behind it is in court. I would prepare documents now, but I would not transfer money before the regulations are published and the Supreme Court has spoken, or at least before I understand the risk of waiting.
Questions and answers
Is the Argentina programme open?
Not yet. On 2 October 2026 the Ministry of Economy said applications would be received during the fourth quarter of 2026. No opening date had been published when I checked on 30 October 2026.
How much does it cost?
The main applicant either makes a non-refundable USD 350,000 contribution to the National Treasury or subscribes to a USD 800,000 public security created for the programme. Government fees have not been announced.
Do I have to live in Argentina?
No. Since Decree 366/2025, Citizenship Law No. 346 allows naturalisation for a relevant investment whatever the length of residence.
Is there legal risk?
Yes. The National Electoral Chamber declared Decree 366/2025 null in one case in 2026, and the government has appealed. I explain it in the guide on the legal basis.
